Life as an FY1 - Better Safe Than Sorry

Hello! I am a newly qualified FY1, and have been roped in to blog writing by the almostadoctor team… you can read the first of my exploits below!
I wrote this at the end of my second week as an FY1, but it’s taken me a couple of months to build up the courage to post it online.
Please also be aware that there is some strong language…
Nothing’s ever black and white…. and a lot of the time, the grey areas can make you feel like a complete idiot.
That’s what happened to me a couple of months ago…

We Love Oxford Handbooks!

When you get into clinical years we've found that the most useful books you can have on you are the two oxford handbooks! (clinical medicine and the specialties handbook). They are small enough to cram into a pocket, detailed enough so you can sound like you know what your talking about and have lots of pretty pictures too! If you go to their website they also hold monthly competitions for handbooks, and have lots of other interesting things for you to check out! Click on the banner to have a look!

The Limitless Myth

Limitless - A film that is in a way a fusion of storylines from a super hero movie and a drug addiction story. Limitless is a great film, there’s no denying that, as has been reflected in the reviews, however it does raise some concerns.

A Himalayan Elective

Well, 2 weeks into my elective in India I have finally remembered my agreement to write a blog about it. Better late than never I suppose. For my elective block I eventually decided to split it into two blocks of 4 weeks; the first spent at home in Manchester, with the second spent in the Himalayan foothills at Dharamsala, home of the Dalai Lama and many more exiled Tibetans. I had decided to focus both placements on infectious diseases, and try to compare the differences and similarities between UK medicine, and the medicine practiced in a much more resource limited system.
